"Always"
Where do I go to feel joy all around?
I always go play with my trusty hound.
What do I do when something troubles me?
I always go see my sweet dog, Jolly.
Who do I tell all my secrets to?
I always tell my dog, there, now I've told you.
If ever I'm feeling a little blue,
I always know just who to go to.
She's my best friend,
Always loyal to the very end.
Everyone I know has been told,
She always has a gentle heart, pure as gold.
She's such a treasure,
I will always love her forever and ever. |

My dogs are cool
They always drool
They love to play they could play all day
Blacky is so big and so wacky
Holly is goofy she drives Blacky loopy
I love them because they are so sweet
Blacky is not at all petite
Holly is no fright
But she is not very polite
But all in all the outside shatters
The inside is all that really matters
|
Grace - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - , MO
My dog is crazy
She can also be lazy

But I still love her without a doubt
|
Taylor - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Marshall, MO
My kangaroo Chrissie she loves to hop
She'd hop all day and night nonstop
My pup brings me joy and love to stay
I hope she never goes away
I like how my puppy is sweet and nice
But she can be frisky playful and bright
She makes my day shine with every step she takes
Especially chewing on that old pillowcase
I like how my puppy likes to lay in my lap
And chew on that tug toy to make me laugh
Chrissie my puppy
Chrissies my girl
Chrissie my best friend forever more

Andrew - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Sandy Lake, PA
All people should have pets.
My cat Fred.
Fred always let's me pet him.
No matter where I am.
He's like my little minion,

He is so fat and furry,
like a pillow for my head. |
Eric - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Sandy Lake, PA

Carolina - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Houston, TX
My Doggie
My doggie is a rat terrier
Each day he gets more harrier
We comb and comb and comb again
It feels like his hair has no end
But when we're done he licks my hand
He follows when I say command
He runs alot
He takes my toys
That when it's bought
He chew's like boys
In the night
He likes the light
Cuz he can play
Without a fight
He looks at me with mocking eyes
And if you see you'll melt like ice
He likes to cuddle
And likes to huddle
When it is cold
And when he is told
My dog is the best
He'll pass a friendship test
Life is so worth it
When you have someone to share it with. |
Shastia - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Austin, TX
Captain Snuggles von Cutie,
The pet that I love.
So cute and adorable,
yet not a dove.
A guinea pig is
what you need to be happy.
So buy me one please!
And just make it snappy.
|
Liana - Grade: 3 - Third Grade - Athens, NY
Ivan the Rottweiler
To me, Ivan is as cute as a little girl's face,
but to some people Ivan looks really scary.
Once they get to know him, though,
he looks really cute.
Ivan loves to go get things,
especially when you throw them.
Ivan makes me feel really happy,
especially when he smiles at me.

Alexis - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Stahlstown, PA
My Dogs Name is Snowball
Snowball is my dogs name,
three words to dascribe him are
happy, playful, and tame.

and he misses me at school all day.

To find a house thats secondhand.
He crawls in someone else`s shell
And stays there because it fitts him well! |
Zachery - Grade: 3 - Third Grade - Mackinaw, IL
You asked me about my loving pets
I adore them so much, with no regrets.
One is Lucy
her nick name is juicy.
Then there is Charlotte that barks all the time.
He barks in the park, in the dark and on a dime.
Ella Bella is so sweet.
She'll wag her tail to get a treat.
To get us up she licks our feet.
Smokey the cat has so much fur.
I love to cuddle and hear her purr.
Snickers and Snowball
never come when called
But we still love them
even though they are bald.

Victoria - Grade: 3 - Third Grade - New Milford, NJ
My Mascot
His name is Jack In The Box.
His mother is Fox In Socks.
A character who talks with his eyes
And always barks his replies.
My dog is as quirky as Dr. Seuss
And as loveable as Mother Goose.
He gets so excited when I get ready for school.
Too bad I can't take him with me. That would be cool!
He could sit in my lap during the day.
At recess we could all run and play.
My class would have its' own mascot.
Jack In The Box would be a real big shot!
A Cavalier to cheer! |
Grace - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Lido Beach, NY

Myra - Grade: 3 - Third Grade - Moorestown, NJ
Runaway Kitten
“There you are Charlotte.”
I take a step forward to pick her up.
Pounce!
Away she goes.
“Charlotte”, I say.
I go chasing after her.
“I’m going to get you missy!”
There she is, in the dog’s bed.
“Why are you stealing the dog’s bed, little one?”
I try to pick her up, but she bites me.
“I’m not a toy kitty!”
I stop.
I think.
I go to the fridge and get a piece of chicken.
“Meat, meat, Charlotte”
Charlotte comes running in and eats the chicken.
Then I pick her up!

Scarlett, Scout and Hunter
Scarlett, Scout and Hunter.
Hunter, black and sleek,
lazy but, tough.
He may sneak.
You may huff,
because he is a loiterer.
Scarlett, Scout and Hunter.
Scout,
A piece of fluff,
A piece of puff,
A cat I could never do without.
Scarlett, Scout and Hunter.
Scarlett,
she has puppy eyes,
but spies,
behind the table,
but barely is able,
to get our food.
She is my velvet puppy.

Abby - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - San Diego, CA
My dog Moe
Moe is not your average dog.
He is curious about the most odd things.
He likes the light of diamond rings
And hates when the spongebob pirate sings.
He finds weird things such as nets.
I love it when his nose is wet.
He is the absolute perfect pet!
My dog's a golden and lab mix.
He does a lot of super fun tricks.
I taught him most of what he knows.
He loves to lick all of my family's toes.
You can tell when he gets confused.
When his head tilts to the side,
He also might wink one eye.
He always makes me really glad.
Moe is the little brother I never had! |
Samar - Grade: 3 - Third Grade - Moorestown, NJ
ROCKY
Oh Rocky! I love you so much!
You lick yourself clean with your tongue, you don't need to be told twice to clean up the mess which is in that closet where privacy beholds. But the number one reason I love you is because of wonderful things we have shared and will! You think Rocky's just a cat? No! He's much much more! The first time we met I was scared from head to toe but you just brushed my hand with your gentle whiskers. Rocky you're my best friend forever! |
Gloria - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Paramus, NJ
My beauty, my life, my treasure, my Kelsey. I love her every day. She lights up our house with her million dollar smile. Her smile is like the brightest star in the sky. When I am feeling sad, she comes to me and makes me smile. She loves everyone she meets. She is always so happy and overjoyed. When I am scared she comes to me and licks me. When I am stressed she comes to me and nudges me until I play with her. Kelsey is a special dog she really stands out. I like that about her. That is why I would not trade her for anything else in the world. |
Julia - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Knightdale, NC
My dog, my bird, oh what a sight!
My dog, my bird, oh what a fight.
My bird squeaks and squawks.
My dog howls and talks.
Oh, what a noise these sounds may take.
Oh, what a mess these animals make.
And, sure enough, what is seen, I have to clean! |
Karina - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - New York City, NY
Is he ours, is he not they thought,
Eventually he was bought,
He bounced with happiness and love,
He was flying,
As high as a dove.
They named him Izzy,
And took him to their house,
At first he was dizzy and as quiet as a mouse,
However later on, he began to have fun.
Izzy is just a little boy,
Full of curiosity and joy,
He loves to eat,
Especially meat.
He's an excited little fellow,
Colored brown and yellow,
On the outside he's huge,
On the inside he's young,
He loves to run sticking out his tongue
You see, this doggie
Stopped my life from being unfortunate and smoggy,
He makes people smile,
And he doesn't eat from a trash pile.
Thank you Izzy

My Dog Max
Max is my protector,
He's always at my feet.
When it comes to best friends,
He can not be beat.
He always gives me kisses,
Though sloppy and wet.
He is the cutest fellow,
I have ever met.
I dress him up,
So we can play house.
He sits there starring,
Keeping quiet as a mouse.
When all is said and done,
He's always there for me
Max is the best friend,
There could ever be. |

My Cat Miss
My words are going to tell about my pet cat.
She is tiger striped, lovable, and fat.
Her name is Miss.
Every day I greet her with a hug and kiss.
In the dark her eyes glow with green.
Once a day she licks herself clean.
Every time I pet her fur
Miss lets out a great big purrrrrrr!
She has been in our family for 16 long years
and to this day will not let us touch her ears.
We don't know how
such a little mouth can let out a big meow. |
Annie - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Westwood, KS
As I watch Norah run as free as the wind,
a feeling of joy washes over me that is one of a kind.
Many years from now, I'll remember
that one day when Norah came into my life during December.
Norah's heart is as sweet as honey,
and she is better than a great deal of money.
When the world has turned away from me,
I lean on Norah, and then I feel free.
Every moment, I cherish my time with my dog
For when I get older, my memories will be as clear as fog.
I wish these times would last forever,
and I always wish for us to be together.
As the years fly by, and the time ticks away,
I'll always have tomorrow, and the next day.
As I'm lost in a world of rainbows and sunshine,
the greatest thing of all is to know that she's all mine. |

My Friend
a sonnet by
Miranda Manross
Fortunate am I to have a friend
Striving always to be near
At times to the outdoors I send
Always comes back to me here
This friend knows when I’ve stricken sick
Keeps close company at night
On me lays like a heavy brick
Knows I’ve not the strength for play-fight
Upon loud lingering cries of hello
Turns me to melted butter on the floor
Makes my unpleasant day anger mellow
And I decide I can go on once more
This friend, a proud name he bears
Is Buster, etched on the collar he wears

“My Sweet Oreo Cookie”
That gleaming sneer upon his face
follows me all over the place.
I turn around and there he sits
waiting for me to offer him Cheez-its.
Black and white like an Oreo cookie
the cute look of him makes me want to play hooky.
If only we could sit and stay,
I could look at his loving face all day.
Then, on walks, he pulls me along,
I can’t tell if I’m on his leash, he’s so strong.
Now you know how sweet he is
and how much fun he has with his "sis."

"My Wish Come True"
Last year a dog was my big wish,
it was on my Christmas list.
Then one night on Santa's sleigh
a little dog jumped out to play.
A scream rang throughout the house,
I literally thought it was a mouse.
He was black and white
with a huge underbite.
As a pup he was so small,
but now he's physically fit and tall.
He ran a race and beat them all,
he plays fetch with stick or ball.
I love him more every day
no matter what others say,
I love my Boston Terrier,
there's never been a dog merrier. |
Fara - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Hartsville, SC

A pet, a pet, a wonderful friend.
When I first picked her up,
the fun will begin.
The cat,so gentle, just stares into your eyes,
When you first bring her home, your heart

me, so playful and feisty, so cute and frisky.
I love all my pets, so cute and kind,
and I smile at the thought that they are mine! |

You will have dreams.
So have yourself a very good night.

Sassy
I have a dog
She is my friend
Someone I can talk to
Someone I can rely on
Black fur
Brown eyes
A sparkly, silver chain to show that she is my special dog
A little white to show that she is old
Her black silky fur reminds me of dancing on the sky at midnight while the eerie moon is peeking through the clouds
She is much more than a dog, more than a friend
When I am bored she picks me up for a ride in the white clouds
When I am sad or mad Sassy is there for me
My dog Sassy is always there for me even when I need girl talk
I love my dog Sassy

Lucas the Strange Dog
My sweet little dog who eats everything
from the table with your big mouth.
Your as sneaky as a detective stealing food,
chips,and chiken.
How silly you are chewing nasty wood.
Your as silly as a monkey in the jungle!
You are a donkey because you look like one
with your big tan ears.
Lucas you also help me seperate my dog skippy
from the neibors dog.
You could jump very high and get on the
trampoline.
You are a kangaroo jumping with strong muscles!
I love you with all my heart and how you restle. |

He said "No" and to go in the house
So I did
Then my dad came in with the dog! |

Rocky
My fun lovin' friend, Rocky
He is a furry, four pawed fun friend!
He's a black and white speckled cute pup!
I love him! He's smart, cute, and as nice as pudding! He's an energetic, chipmunk chasing fool!
He'll also go ripping across the yard to get a squirrel!
He would chase balls all day if he could!
He'll follow me all around and with a little bit of wresting mixed in, it's a furry, four pawed day!
He goes CRAZY on our walks in the morning! All he wants to do is sniff!
That funny lil' pup makes me laugh so hard that if I was eating, I would choke!
He is always so excited, it just pours right off him!
I feel so awesome (partially because I'm laughing hysterically) when he is with me.

"My Dog Snoop"
My Poem's about my dog named Snoop,
he's a Miniature Pinscher and his little ears droop.
He's a little chubby, just like me.
We're the perfect pair and that's easy to see.
Snoop has a bigger bark than bite,
so no matter the costs, he'll compete in a fight.
He once didn't like me until I gave him love and care,
but now he's all over me, like honey for a bear.
I like to sneak him food, even though I get yelled at
but it's because we're good friends and that is that!

Her warm chocolate eyes
are so innnocent and forgiving
the face that never lies
a guilty thief on Thanksgiving
her sleek mignight coat
gleams in the sunlight
when I get a sore throat
she is by me day and night
her soft silky ears
hear me as I walk to her
when I shed many tears
she comes, and i shed fewer
her forever-wagging tail
tickles my thigh
her body never frail
enduring heat in mid-July
her fur as soft as pillows
her voice greeting as a welcome mat
You are my Willow
no doubt about that

My Favorite Animal
There are many animals that I love
But my favorites are dogs
Dog are special to me because
They deserve extra care and love
I should know because I have five dogs
They are special to me
Each one takes up a piece of my heart
When they get hurt
A little piece of my heart melts
They all are different in special ways
Fiona is a princess
Rocky is a trouble maker,
Minnie is a my way or no way
Brownie is a peace maker
Venus is a rocker
They hold a special place in my heart
When I see them sleeping I call them my angels
The only time they are not bothering me
They are my babies
And I love them

My Pets
I have a dog and hamster that both have my heart.
I fell in love with them right from the start.
Sometimes, my dog Twiggy and I play.
While my hamster calmly sleeps away the day.
Beezus the hamster is active at night.
She exercises in her wheel and climbs through all her tubes in sight.
My pets are truly my best friends.

My Cat “Whiskers”
By Nick Pottle
Whiskers is Spring, bright and growing quick
She is afternoon, waiting for me to get off the bus
She is a bonfire, surrounded by other cats
She is a lake, calm and steady
She is a cat, being herself
She is a sunflower, with a bright attitude
She is a bed, sleeping half the day
She is arms, jumping into mine
She is sun, hates the rain
She is a soft scarf, fur like silk
She is pink, with a loving heart
She is fish, flopping on the floor
She is fruit juice, as healthy as heck
She is a trombone, making loud noises
She is baseball, with quick reactions
She is a bedroom, always hiding from dad
She is a fairytale, with a happy ending
She is Cape Cod, bright to everyone she meets
She is a cuddle bug, I can’t live without her

Humfery
By: Melissa
Humfrey is nice,
Humfrey is sweet,
He loves his wheel and his tasty treats
his nose is wet, his tail short,
his eyes are dark just like the night,
His hair is so soft ,His feet so small
he is as silent as the stars on a hot summers night.
His ears are so tiny but can hear alot.
The sight of him crawling on your shirt
when you play and those big black eyes
staring up at you while you look down
at him. I love my curious hamster with a
personality so sweet, I will always treasure
you in my heart and this is just a token of my
love from me to you Humfrey.

My Best Friend
A wisp of pure gold
A spring of real love
A touch of genuine bond
A gentle burst of pure friendship
A tug of loyal willingness
All between him and me
He listens to my thoughts
He joins me when I lament
He knows when I am jubilant
He knows when I am not
For He is perfect perfectness
And knows how to love and care
He wants to be one with me
Play and roll around
He wants to make me smile at him
And with vigor and with courage he stands right next to me
Wagging with beauty of the inner true pup he truly, truly is
And showing all his kindness
And blushing with all his pride
And being that charming dog
That only I know he is
And living only for his dream
Which is to be with, play with, talk with me

My lovely puppy
he barks and gets crazy
when he sees me
wags his tail and I smile
I take care of my dog
I give him food
I give him showers
I give him hugs and play, too
When someone is knocking at the door
he goes to me and won't stop barking
until I open the door
He loves me and I love him so much

is when I am sad he gets close to me,
hugs me and makes me feel better
When I am watching TV
he watches it with me

Me and my dogs love to play!

while me and Resee play with a big stuffed sheep
and Jaxs plays with a
littel toy sheep.
My dogs always love and play
with me.
So, that is why I love them. |

Black and furry you might see him as
But black and furry is not all he has.
Loveable and huggable are neat charcteristics.
My dogs name is Kody,with a K.
His name is c-less.
He's always ready to go.
He's good for the groomers and
He's like a big baby but without all of the dipers.
He has grown up so much since we've brought him home.
Kody is 80 pounds of joy alone and
All though telling about Kody must end here,
I still hope you think Kody's a dear!

Golden Magic
Soft golden fur friends
Big brown eyes of love
Patiently follow my every move
So, I stop in introspection
I look down at them
They look up at me
One small gesture
They run to my side
Nuzzle at my feet
jump on my lap
sloppy kisses follow
Tails wag as I utter love-words
telling them they are so good
Before I am aware I am smiling inside and out.
I know they love me unconditionally.

Pigs may snorkel, pigs may squeal, but with you guys its a different deal.
Running in your little cages going through your different phases.
Running on your little paws , scratching on those cage bars.

Your cute little faces against mine, while doing this time flies.

Frito
Frito is my cats name. He's always running for the door because he knows somebodys there to play with him. People think he looks like garfield and so do I. They could be twins except he's extra fat. Frito is colorful and wonderful. When I am sad he makes me feel glad. One time when I was in bed he climbed on my head. My favorite thing about Frito is he survived a fire and I survived a skooter reck and together we are survivers and we are AWESOME!!!

Lovable Kitties
One cat, two cat, three cat, four
All were chasing a ball of yarn on the floor.
First, we rescued Snowy and then there was Twitch
Then we found Rose and Taz in a ditch.
Mom said rescuing one would be okay,
But the lady at the shelter said it was a two for one special that day.
A house with four kids and four cats,
A crazy combination that could give our parents heart attacks.
One child, two child, three child, four
Loving their kitties more than the day before.

My Kittens, the Brothers
Ranger is ferocious as a boar and furry like cotton.
Trouble is adorable and soft as silk.
Ranger sometimes smells rotten.
But Trouble smells sweet as milk!
They love to fight one another,
Ranger gets into his brother’s name,
But no matter how much they attack each other,
I’ll love them just the same.
They will snuggle close when it’s cold.
They will be nice when pet.
They’re quite a story to be told,
It starts the day we met...
So now you know all about Ranger and Trouble.
Maybe next time I’ll tell you about their sister Bubble...

My Messy Puppy
How can a little puppy
Make such a big mess!
The couch is all ripped
And there is mud on my dress!

But on the inside I really do!
He may be the messiest that he can be
But he sure means a lot to me!

My Amazing Pet
He is the smallest thing around
He never makes a sound.
You see him once and then he’s gone
Like a line from a song
But he is unforgettable
And never does anything wrong.
I wish I could hold him close to me
But that wouldn’t allow him to breath.
If you think he’s a boring pet
Well I believe he is the best one yet!
He’s usually happy in his home
But I don’t like it when he’s alone.
My fish is not my only friend
But deep down I know I can depend
On only him!

Legendary Mary
Mary is my little green turtle friend.
Mary is mysterious and rarely seen
that’s because she’s always hiding
behind my apple tree.
Her shell is like a green sea rock
that brings out light in the starry night.
She has quite the scary, long, sharp claws
that might scratch you by surprise.
Her little baby feet are really scaly and green.
The reason I love her so much is
because she’s my legendary Mary!

I have a dog named Pilot
She does not fly a plane
We found her at a gas station that had the same name
She was sick
She had ticks, fleas and heartworm disease
After she recovered from the vet
She gave us a surprise
Nine puppies, we couldn't believe our eyes
We love Pilot and think she was sent to us from God
She is a golden retriever
She has brown eyes
A chocolate nose
And stinky corn- chip toes
Her fur is golden brown
She will never, ever make you frown
She's my best friend
I love Pilot |

The Bedtime Battle
Every night before bed I call my cat to my side
He comes, rumbling and tumbling
What a ride!
I climb in bed and listen to scuffle
My guinea pigs waddle,
Their fur is ruffled.
I lay silently until -
Squeak!
I sit up and take a peek.
Then my face
Molded into rage
My cat was inside their cage!
That was when I realized
My cat was just as surprised
The guinea pigs were not scared
Even with the cat's teeth bared!
Out he sprung
I was sure me was done
And I was right.
There was no fight. |

I reall want a pet because;
They keep you happy
They give you hope when you're down
By their life styles
You look at them and feel their pain
Pets are so huggable
When you are beside them
They feel loved
You can be yourself when your pet is with you
They help prepare kids for the future
You are responsible when you have a pet
Because you have to feed them
Keep them and their cages clean
Like taking care of a baby
Pets are the cutest creatures in the world
Their eyes glow in the dark
What would you rather have?
A pet or a video game?
Have empathy for those homeless pets and help them.
I'd love to adopt a pet
Be a friend for change
Adopt a pet and give it the love they deserve.
I dont have a pet but i'd love one
I'll give it the love it deserves.
I won't let my pet down
I already have a name for my pet
"LOVE"

A True Friend
I have a true friend
That is named
Zoey.
She is as soft as a cloud
In the sky.
She is also as soft as a pillow
Under your head.
She crawls under my legs
When she sees someone.
She licks me and makes me
All wet and sticky.
She loves to run and play fetch
Every night she puts her soft jaw
On my face.
Every morning she wakes me
Up with just a lick on my nose.
When you meet her,
You would love her.
If you know what it is,
You would want one.

Zorro, Zorro, Zorro,
You can be on family Ties and your deep black eyes makes us all hypnotized.
The way you eat, the way hide, the way you run, and the way you slide makes all of us,
full of pride.
Zorro, if we lived a thousand years,
I would want you to continue nibbling my ears, scratching my legs,
begging and barking for food, and having you near.
Oh, Zorro, Zorro, Zorro,
Black and white who loves to play day and night,
We love you cockapoo.

Destiny - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Miami Beach, FL
My little pooch,
So fluffy and white.
I love you so
With all my might.
Eyes so pink,
Fur so white.
Still loving you,
Even at night.
You always want me
To scratch your belly
Then you let me
Make you peppy.
Even though
You never change.
I'll still love you
That way!
*peppy = nice or good |
Michael - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Miami Beach, FL
In the morning of each school day
On the corner,
My awesome dog waits with me
Till the car stops.
In the afternoon when
The car carries me home again,
He sits waiting till I come
And up he hops.
He covers me
With sloppy doggy kisses;
He licks my nose
And lunch box up and down.
Maybe other dogs,I bet,
Wouldn't get a kiss so wet,
But I wouldn't trade him
For all the dogs in town.
My pet gives love back
To me
In many
Mysterious
Wondrous ways
Wet kisses
Soft hisses
Snuggles
Neighs-
Through moments
Through hours
Of
Pet loving days.

Isabella - Grade: 3 - Third Grade - Key biscayne, FL
Traviesa was a cute little
and I was her master
as a master
I took very good care of my hamster.
She was black and bright
just like the night
with white dots
and gray spots.
She loved eating carrots
she loved eating pie
but what she loved the best
was having fun.
Tick and tock, tick and tock
time passe as fast as a clock
and traviesa the cute little hamster
continued loving her master.
She was two years old
she was already old
we have to move out
and leave her alone
But once we found out
a really nice guy
who would treat her as good
as we would.
I couldn't believe my ears
I couldn't believe my hart
I couldn't contain myself
the only thing I could do was CRY.
The last day was there
the last day came
I said bye bye
and ran away.

A Member of our Family
There's a member in my family
and I know just who it is
My dog Max is the one
who's like another kid.
His fur is white and black
with a little touch of brown
His eye's are big and shiny
and he never wears a frown.
He likes to play fetch
and cuddle up with us
He's soft and fuzzy
and we never make a fuss.
We adopted him from a shelter
where he was sad and all alone
He looked misunderstood
so we brought him home.
He's the best dog ever
that is easy to see
That's because he is
the best dog he can be.

Lucy on the Loose
Lucy on the loose,
that crazy, cute, loose goose
- but really she's a canine.
and I'm glad that she is mine.
Begging for food and more,
when she just ate minutes before,
Mom say's she is spoiled.
Running to her kennel,
when she hears "bad dog bad!"
This makes Lucy and me very sad.
Outside Lucy goes,
Ground is wet, muddy, dirty toes;
Inside Lucy goes, oh no!
Lucy sees her chance,
To chew the prize rose petals,
Dad says Lucy is in trouble.
But new people come to call,
Lucy licks faces one and all.
and wags her stubbly tail
She's the most loveable fur ball.

For all the smiles he provides
is more than enough for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

My Awsome Dog Kenya
I love my dog Kenya or she can be called Meni. She cost a pretty penny. She is cozy and rosy and don't forget she is nosy. She likes to put her nose wherever it goes. She has a diamond collar which we call bling bling. When she goes to bed she covers her nose with her toes. Her head is so soft and her body so rough. Her ears are so big I think she needs a wig. She has a short stumpy tail and you should see her nails. She likes to play everyday. I love her so so much. When she plays with me she always makes me run and it sure is a lot of fun! She is a fawn color and everyone thinks she is a Weimaraner. You could say Weimi. By the way Kenya has a big heiny. She has a big snout it is really immense. I love her also because she has great listening skills. She is well behaved, Kenya barely barks and she rarely narks. Kenya is such a good dog. I love my dog Kenya so, so, so, much. She can never be better. That's all I want to say about my awesome and great dog Kenya.

I have some pets big and small
I really love them all
I take my pets to the mall
and buy my dogs a bouncy ball
My kitty cat
has a doll
she always makes her fall
I chase my bird down the hall
I always trip and fall
My guinea pig has a suit
He looks real cute

She had a pretty boot

Salute the hoot
I got my elephant at the butte
I made him a fancy suit

My dog's name is Mondy
She does not bark
She sits around all day
for me to take her to the park.
She loves everyone
even me too
my friends and family
different animals too.
She loves to be brushed
and washed too

then I put water in the other bowl
she shivers cause it is sometimes cold.
It becomes nighttime
and she's scared
so I cuddle with her
but no one is there. |

An Old Friend
Libby was my cousins’ dog.
I only got to see her once a year.
But those days were the best of my life.
We’d run,
We’d jump,
And we’d howl to the moon.

One frightful day.
Libby died, I’m sorry to say.
Libby was a complete friend
And she was loyal to the end.
And I will always miss her.

The Great World of Pets
Written by: Jordan Skye Lappin
There are parakeets, lizards, and everything in between,
Christmas I hope I get a dog,
So I can dress it up on Halloween,
If I got one I would post it on my blog,
Goldfish don’t do much,
But sit in a tank,
Yet I still want such,
Because my other one sank,
They act like good friends,
When you need them the most,
Still play with pens,
And can’t make you toast,
But there are more than you know,
And they say,
If you truly love something let it go,
And if they love you they’ll stay.

she like to lay around
on the dirty ground. |

Talula, my dog,
She is so sweet.
Her fluffy tail keeps a beat.
Klicketedy claws,
Here she goes,
Down the hall on her toes.
Her eyes are so big,
She snorts like a pig.
Her tongue is so long,
She keeps it strong.
By licking me when I come home from school.
And that is cool. |

A Doggy in My Classroom
I hear you in the morning, afternoon and nighttime.
You're barking is worse than Hitler's war crime.
She brings you to school everyday without fail,
Turning my classroom into an audible jail.
Youre annoying as hell, yet seem to comfort this lonely bride.
Well I'm here to tell you, no one really likes you -
hang yourself with your collar, there's no shame in suicide.
You seem so happy as you run through the classroom.
yapping and squeaking and pissing inside.
Well I'm here to remind you, you were abandoned in a shelter -
go lick up some antifreeze, there's no shame in suicide.
And think of what happens when her hubby returns.
You're pathetic attempts for attention denied.
Well I'm here to tell you, back to the shelter you'll go -
so save them the trip, lay down in traffic, there's no shame in suicide.
But all is not lost there's a chance that they'll keep you.
You can all live together with love you can't hide.
But wait till he finds out you bark all the time,
go jump off a building, there's no shame in suicide.
So as you can see Griffin you've run out of options.
Alone, ugly and unloved - that can't be denied.
For once in your life bring a smile to my face,
This poem's your note, now commit suicide.

Comet
Long golden fur
Doesn't make a purr
Sparkling brown eyes
Are held with such suprise
Sharp white claws
Rest apon her paws
Silky floppy ears
That very sharply hear
Pointy white teeth
Are sharp enough
to cut a wreath
She barks when she hears moo
And she is only 3 foot 2
That's my great dog Comet

Big and clumsy,
Friendly and sweet,
My dog Mistie,
Who loves a tasty treat.
She's loyal all day,
And strong all night,
But almost everything gives her a fright.
I've never seen an animal,
Who eats so much,
Then drips water from her mouth,
Like a big klutz.
My dog Mistie is so happy with the home she lives in,
I'm happy too,
Except when she gets into the trash bin!! |
Mackenzie - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Attleboro, MA
He has a beautiful fur coat,
But he can not float.
He has a personality,
Smaller than a bee,
He is Chewie.
My Chewbacca bear,
Is very fair.
He is cuddly,
And snuggly,
He is Chewie.
He is lovable you see,
He does not live in a tree.
The only thing I regret,
is putting him in a net,
He is Chewie.
A one year old pup,
who does not live in a cup.
His fur is brindle,
But he does not kindle,
He is Chewie |
Caitlin - Grade: 4 - Fourth Grade - Attleboro, MA
A playful dog she is.
When cars pass she does a dance.
She twirls and twirls and twirls around.
Powder likes to chase squirrels.
She likes to chase other animals too.
My grandma's dog shadow had a bed, but he never used it.
Once we brought it home, my dog loves to snuggle under the heat on her bed. |

My Pal Dixie
My pet is sweet
My pet is kind
My pet is keen
My pet is mine
My pet is brown like milk chocolate
My pet is small like a droplet
My pet is cute as can be
My pet is as sweet as honey
My pet is as short as an elf
She’s so small, she’ll fit on a shelf
She brings joy to me when I’m blue
She could do it for anyone, even you
She has the energy of a buzzing bee
Her joy is fun for her and me

My dog's name is Tinkebell,
She loves jinglebells.
She looks like chocolate,
She is fast as a rocket.

She looked at us ever so sweet.
She likes to play with different things,
especially with big sparkly rings.
I love my dog, she is the best,
I will never trade her fo the rest. |

Dusty
I have a kitten,
his name is Dusty.
I love him so much,
he is not very fussy.
He’s gray and white,
and very funny.
He’s so very cute,
He sometimes looks
like a BUNNY!
He hops higher than a
frog, and runs faster than
a cheetah, every time you
race him, he will always
BEAT YA!
So now you see, he’s me
kitten indeed, I love him so
much, he sleeps with me!

WEDNESDAY WITH MY PUPPY
I wake up, her fluffy snout in my face, get me out of this place. She wants to play in the snow. Two scoops of food and some water, let's go.
Recess is time to have some fun but, she wants back the sun. She wants to play and take up the day. She sits by my seat and begs for a treat. Toys are so fun but, the boys take her to run and I'll see her at the end of the day. My puppy will always want to play. |

GOING TO SCHOOL
Other dogs are called Strider, some Aewen, some Griffin, while mine is named Willow. Even though, she is not big enough to be ridden she runs in the sun, freezes in the cold, plays in the rain, jumps in the snow and wishes I would not go! I hop in the car leaving a whining puppy. Whether she gets muddy, wet or is dry it is hard to say goodbye.

White lightning we call him.
White lightning he is.
My love will always be his.
His nose as wet as the rain in spring.
He barks he farts and he even sing.
Man, do I love when he does thosse things.
His fur is white.
He is fast as the speed of light.
He runs until he is out of sight.
He in bouncy, he is pouncy just like a spring.
That why we call him white lightning. |
Cedetria - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Dallas, TX
Pretty we call her.
Pretty she is.
My life will always be her's.
Her nose is as soft as my pillow.
Pretty your eyes are as hazel as they can be.
Your skin is dark and soft as flowers.
I love the way you pounce and bounce over the couch.
Pretty you are the most prettiest cat ever.
That's why we call you pretty. |

My Dog Stuart
by James Kenney
I have a dog named Stuart;
he's with me every day.
He's really a good friend
And chases household pests away.
He barks at everything, even his reflection
and let me tell you, if he needs it,
it's not good for election.
He goes into my bedroom
Almost every night.
He only goes in there
When I keep on the light.
He's not fearless, though -
He's really tight with Dad.
And whenever Dad is in the room
Stuart's never glad.
He's almost impossible to train
Even basic tricks like sit and stand
But it seems so easy
When Dad's in command. |

Cupcake
Oh, I loved my little baby fish.
Her name was Cupcake.
She lived in a bowl with 12 little crystals
and a piece of shiny coral to lay her fishy head.
Cupcake, you gave me joy in all my troubles,
Probably never saw me sad.
Caring enough to be around,
all the things I do for you makes me happy to know you.
Cupcake, you were the brightness of my soul.
Kindest fish you were to me;
everlasting memories.

Snicker, Snicker
He is not a candy bar.
When we go to bed

When we wake up he says:
“EEE! EE!” Then my parents say
“Be quiet you stinky rat!”
I said, “He’s not a rat,
he’s a Guinea Pig!”

My Stuart My Dog
by Deborah Kenney
Sometimes I lay in bed at night
And listen to the thunder rumble low
And I need comforting and courage so.
Then he appears at my side and lays down low
My Stuart my puppy My Stuart my dog.
We romp around in the fields
Jumping, laughing, rolling
And when the thunder rolls around
We all lay down low
My Stuart my puppy My Stuart my dog.
I love my Stuart
I love my dog
And when lightning and thunder roll around
We all lay down low. |

We both love each other
And I have a bird named Foxy
We watch movies together
And when guest come over
They like to pet her
She's with me all the time
When we go places
But sometimes she's behind
When I'm sad
She's always there for me
But never when I'm mad
I love her so much
and she does too
Adn she eats all my food
I walk her alot
and sometimes we give
her a bath in the pool

My dog's name is Max,
he's really bright and yellow.
He's cute and big, but he's not very mellow.
He's quite nice with a touch of sweetness.
He is a keeper...well more or less.
He's sometimes annoying because he barks all through the night.
He stops barking when the sky is bright.
He's awesome and not very old.
He'll always be the greatest pet ever and will always be very bold.
He's one of a kind,
he's always on my mind. I'm glad that he's mine and he's very fine.
He sometimes gets my whole family mad, he's one in a million, the best and only dog I ever had.
This is coming from Erick Hernandez from YCCS, the main idea of this poem is my dog is the best. |

If my pets weren't passed, I would spend all day with them. I can still visit them in my dreams. I was conforted by their sweetness and they gave me courage when times were difficult. Bearded Dragon
What in the world is a bearded dragon,
Does it have claws or any talons,
Does it breathe fire or have wings,
Or some other monstrous thing?
How did the bearded dragon get its name,
Is it because he breathes flame?
No! A bearded dragon
Has no talons.
Its got claws
But they're not paws.
If I could have one of them,
I'd take good care of him,
I'd feed him not too little, not too much,
Just the right amount for him to munch.
As you can clearly see,
A bearded dragon is the pet for me. |

You're loving and playful
Your sparkling eyes are beautiful
Every second you are here, you warm my heart
and when you're not here I'll cry until you come back.
I knew that you were perfect for me the first time I laid eyes on you at the shelter,
and knew I had to have you at my home.

My Role Model
I have a role model, she might have some fur,
but if you listen closely you'll see why i chose her.
Always happy to see you and she wouldn't care
if you made a mistake, or somethings not fair.
Her tails always wagging,
and whatever the time or day, she'll be there to cuddle,
she asks for no pay.
If your feeling down, or something is wrong
kisses from her is what we all long.
She'll be right by your side in the dark creepy basement,
or on a trail in the woods too,
she'll do pretty much what you want her to do!
My dog is my role model, cant you see?
My dog is my role model, why wouldn't she be??

"Henry"
Henry, oh Henry.
You came to us one day.
When we least expected it, you were sitting in our driveway.
Tiger stripes, fuzzy and only one eye.
It was as if you were sent to us from our past kitty in the sky.
Food and love is all that you asked.
And in return , we got a relationship that would last.
You are there in the morning and when we return at night.
You bring joy to our lives and make everything bright.
Although it's only been three months since you arrived,
we feel blessed and so happy that you are part of our lives.
We will continue to love you with each passing day.
What we feel for you will never wear away!

That Dog
That’s the one Mommy!
The one over there
the dog with the scar,
and curly brown hair
No way, my darling.
Not that filthy mutt.
It probably has fleas
and look at that cut.
She’s beautiful, Mom.
Not “it.” She’s a “her.”
We’ll take her home
and brush out her fur.
I’ll take her walking
every day rain or shine.
We’ll buy her a collar
and then she’ll be mine.
We can’t do this honey.
We can’t take home that.
What would Dad think?
How about a cat?
No, Mom.
I won’t take another.
Dad would love her.
Why can’t you, Mother?
O.K. honey.
I guess she is cute.
Furry face, big brown eyes.
No, not a brute.
But you’ll have to wash her.
I’m not doing that.
Don’t forget to walk her
and brush out that mat.
Oh yes, Mom,
I’ll do that.
Now don’t you worry.
I’ll brush her and wash her
till she’s more soft and furry
than she’s ever been!
She and I will be best friends.
I’ll name her Rebecca
and her scar I will mend.

I once had a dog named Beni,
She was not a weenie.
She brought us another,

Before she died,
She filled our hearts with pride.
When she died it was very sad,

And her favorite toy.
So we found a new girl,
And thought to give it another whirl.

I was young at age 5, at that time my dog was still alive.
I named her snowball because she was white as snow
She lived her life just to eat and grow.
Obviously she wasn't here for that long.
I made a mistake, took away her life, took away her faith.
If you would like to know about here, her favorite food was keish. It was a tragic accident, at the time I didn't know about a leash. She was young just like me, she didn't live long, her life did not succeed. it is life cycle, she played her part. you'd think she's just apiece of something dead, but she is a piece of something in my heart. |

Freddy Mercury
The pixelized picture
Came up on the screen,
Of a little tan dog
With two small eyes
And a damp, brown nose.
We got him from a rescue shelter
Called Boxers and Buddies,
When we went to go see him
This puny dog was all bark, no bite.
He loves extensive walks,
But can't walk the whole way,
He also loves treats,
And food off the table,
He licks his lips,
Looking up,
Waiting for a scrap to descend
To the ground.
He is soft, and downy,
With little pointy ears,
His tail is short and stubby,
But I love him anyway.
Words can't describe
How much I love him,
He can be frazzled at times,
But he can also be
A wonderful companion,
My dog, Freddy

Sylvia, Powhatan, and Pincher.

Powhatan likes to swim around in his tank.

The Pussycat Princess
By Samantha Rassner
My cat, Summer is a pussycat princess.
She jumps like an acrobat, EVERYWHERE in my home,
"Pounce, Pounce, ALWAYS on the move.
She spends most of her time like any other cat.
Sleeping in the basement for 8 hours on her pillow like a throne.
She also has a variety of toys to keep herself entertained,
They are based on one of her worst enemies, BIRDS!
She claws on them like an armchair,
Grabs them like a mouse on the move.
Summer can be vicious at times when at play.
Summer has a lot of food.
They are moist and wet food
Then there is dry and rough food
But her favorite snack of all is fish flavored cat treats.
The pussycat princess has an even worse enemy than birds.
My dog, Cayden!
He is like the dragon in her fantasy.
But she doesn't stop trying to bring people joy and happiness like me,
It works! Summer will stay the pussycat princess forever! *

My Dog
By:Lindsey Williams
Who's the best dog I ever had?
Who's the one who makes me glad?
Who's the girl that always snores?
What's her name, the one who scratches on doors?
Is she the one who wants to play?
Doesn't she run around all day?
There she is, that cute little fellow!
She's the crazy one, nothing close to mellow!
Who's this dog you're talking about?
The one who wants in and out?
She's my friend, my companion, my girl,
The one with the wet nose and a tail that curls.
Her name might be Buddy, Honey, or Kaley,
But no, it's not, it's my dog, Bailey. |

The Baby Chews His Thumb
By Jonathan L. Barrett
A baby, just a little tiny baby
Just like his mom,
blue eyes, pink cheeks, and a bright smile.
Tiny, but soft toes, and a hard head,
BUT,
no one knows.
A baby, just a little tiny baby
Just like his mom,
Playful, constant crying, hungry, but never eats.
This tiny baby is spoiled.
Sits on my lap,
Always wants to play,
Always hungry,
but always wasting food.
But no matter how long he does this,
I’ll always love him.
A baby, just a little tiny baby
Just like his mom.
Now it’s time for bed,
time for you to rest your head.
Your heart has been pumped
And beat like a drum,
“Shhhhh”, rest peacefully,
while baby chews his thumb

My Dog
I would like to have a dog because I would like to take care of him. To me, dogs are special in their own way.
I would like to have a dog to play with so I won't be bored. Going outside, walking to the park are just some of the things we can do.
His color would be black, because that is my favorite color. I would pet him, and feed him when we eat breakfast and dinner too.
Also important for my dog, is making sure his teeth are brushed and that his hair stays combed. And I would call him Blackey because it sounds like a dog's name! |

My Own
I would want a puppy because I don't have anybody to play with. If I had a puppy, I would walk, talk, feed and buy clothes--because you know- it's got to be a girl!
I would name her Diva because she will act like a diva. With a black face and touches of brown that glitter in the sun.
She would even have a collar with a heart charm on it. I would teach her some tricks and show her manners.
Most of all, I look forward to dressing her up, brushing her, putting a bow in her hair to make her look pretty just like me.

Title: Blaze
Blaze is a doggy,
She's super, super fluffy.
I hug her,
Because I love her.
When she's at home,
She chews on her bone.
She means so much to me,
I think she's lovely.
She sleeps on my feet,
Because she doesn't like the Texas heat.
She sometimes is a little bad,
and it makes me a little sad.
If she ever dies,
I will always cry.

COLBY
Sam Jagolinzer
Colby the cat
Has came back
After the twelve
Days he was missing.
Gone from the house
Maybe away in the neighborhood.
Slinking around trying to find his way back.
Nearly put his water bowl back
When
We found him propped up against the railing.
Excited upon his arrival
We thought he was gone.
But back alive and well.
And now five years later...
At 18 a pretty long life.
But now,Colby is gone from the house again
But not coming back. |
Madison - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Cumberland, ME
Two Sided Dog
by Madison Rawnsley
Casco
bites you when you walk in,
scratches you when he jumps.
Casco is a vicious tiger chasing his prey when he wants to play,
steals your mittens right off your hands
if
your outside skating.
If
you sit on the couch and watch t.v
he jumps up on your lap to get a pat from you.
If
you go outside
he’ll go out and play with you.
Casco loves to play but can be a little ruff
and he can be a simple as caterpillar when he’s tired
either way i love him no matter which side
|
Coco - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Cumberland, ME
I love my dog-duckie
I love my dog
with his peace sign collar
when he runs off we have to holler
we say duckie treat
and we hear him come back with his waddling feet
I love my dog
with his sixth broken leash
he makes some mistakes and thinks they are treats
I love my dog
with his small black nose
he loves it when we spray him with the garden hose
I love my dog
when he plays in the snow I love him and he will always know

Ella - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - North Yarmouth, ME
Irreplaceable.
Ella Novick.
Before she was put on a shelf,
as ashes in a box,
Her tiger teeth smiled
the stub of her tail waged
I hugged her like
a teddy bear
she was warm like fuzzy pajamas
She was a magician
who made you laugh
even when you tried to refuse a smile
At times she was a princess
wanting everything from chew toys to food
Then a dare devil
jumping over me without even a running start.
she was like a flower,
that never bloomed while growing in my heart
But the flower stayed
bottled up
ever since. |
Isabelle - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Cumberland, ME
Shady
Isabelle Bachelder
A big, fat, lazy, ball of black
With eyes as green as
granny smith apples
nip nip nip nip
she
kneads on my sweatshirt
I walk through the door
I see her sitting in front of me
waiting
waving her tail like a broom sweaping the floor
At times I feel aggrivated
she sits on top of the couch
slaps me with her tail
she scratches me,
she avoids my presence
she hisses when I pet her the wrong way
but
I
still
love her

Nica
Trevor Rafford
Have you ever seen a dog sleep.
Mine reclines and recedes into oblivion, first class.
Harmoniously breaths, nestled somewhere deep within warm firelight.
Her feet twitch as she runs in her dream
chasing rabbits galore.
Her lions fur looks ragged and rough.
In the morning
she’ll “grrr” and bark at unseen foes.
she’ll nip, jump, knock you into the snow,
“bam”
I laugh as snow tickles my face
So different when she sleeps.
Are all dogs are that way?
Is yours?

Leo
Stephanie Johnson
A live stuffed animal.
You just want to squeeze!
Prods around the house, his tail a lucious plume.
A fluffy, bobcat.
You can trust him with all your secrets.
Jingle jingle, he shakes, jumps down, runs into a room.
Collar, blue as an iris.
Purring as loud as exploding dynamite.
Meowing as gentle as a light snow fall.
A dream come true,
a real live fairy tale...
My cat Leo. |
Ethan - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Cumberland, ME
That Cat
That cat sits in darkness on the first step-
waiting for a string
destined to be stepped on
That stupid cat
He bites me and clings on tight as if a life saver
that mean cat
He comes to a sleeping me hops- lands like a shuttle on the moon
starts kneading my chest as if it was full of cat nip
That annoying cat
He comes to me when I cry,
purrs-
brushes me with walrus whiskers
That loving cat
He bounds into the snow-
black on white he runs
tunnel to tunnel
That playful cat
that cat of mine. |

Kitten Eyes
by Abbie Osgood
Though most of the time she is a lemon,
a sour,
mean old cat,
sometimes she’s a sunrise.
The old crumbling road she was slowly
fades away,
pulling down the curtain of what was
Her eyes are sparks of youth
when she comes out to play
Crescents growing into full moons of summer grass green
Her love is flowers in the spring
At dawn a tornado’s spin,as she runs down the hall
My one wish is that she would stay with her kitten eyes
Forever

Bounces up on the bed
claws dig into my soft comforter

See his stream of black and brown fur

I hear his breathing like a heartbeat
cool and calm
no moving no talking
just that sweet purring sound
and his heart and mine. |

Tiffany is the BEST
My pet’s name is Tiffany.
She is a dog.
When I come from school, I will let her out of her cage She will come out and lick all over my face.
I love my pet Tiffany because she is sweet and kind.
She is the BEST!
When somebody is at the door then she will bark-she wants to protect me.
I will give her a bath when she is dirty.
Tiffany loves her toys but most of all she love her duck. I love Tiffany!
Tiffany knows when some body loves her too.
Tiffany will jump on me then she will go in the closet to hide.
We like playing games together!
She will drag her bag of food so I can give her some. After Tiffany eats her food then she will go to sleep.
I love tiffany very much and I know she loves me TOO! |
Amanda - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Bowie, MD
I WONDER
by Amanda Rogel
I miss my pets while at school, oh yes!
In the world, I vote that they are the best!
But I wonder what my pets do at home.
I wonder if Cindy is chewing her bone...
And what will the cats do today
While my family is all away?
(Cindy's part)
Oh, I wish that my owner would come right away.
I watched her disappear on the bus today.
I don't know what she does at school.
All I can do is sit and drool.
I miss Amanda and hope that soon
I will bark a happier tune!
The cats are being total pains.
I wish they could be put out in the rain...
(Figaro and Carmen's part)
Our owner is gone, hip hip hooray!
Imagine all the things we can do today!
Rip up the sofa, claw up the chairs,
And chase each other up and down the stairs!
We think that the dog is a total sap,
When Amanda comes home, we'll fake a nap!
Then she will think that the dog was bad,
And with us she will not be mad!
(Amanda again)
I am back home at last, yippee!
My pets are here to greet me.
Hey, what's that mess over there?
Did you two cats claw up that chair?
It's okay, Cindy! I know you're good.
It's Figaro and Carmen who don't do what they should!
Still, I love my pets because they add,
To my life so much more happy than sad! |
Inez - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Miami Gardens, FL
I have a pet that is a dog.
Her fur is soft as a teddy bear.
She’s a fierce beautiful dog.
When I’m feeling angry, she clowns around to make me smile.
When I’m being silly , she does everything I do.
When I leave her, her whimper says –DON’T GO.
Her barks have told me a billion times I am the reason she loves me.
When my friends are getting on my last nerve she never leaves me.
When I look into her blue ocean eyes it’s like we’re running along the ocean shore with the cool breeze
by our sides
She rubs against my leg as to say don’t worry everything will be ok.
She’s a part of me that can reach out into my inner most secrets.
COCO—my soft, fierce, blue eyed dog.

Destiny - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Miami Gardens, FL
He is loving and can give so much companionship
He brings smiles to my face.
He is eager to play with me.
With him I am powerful.
Soon as spring comes he will wait for me by the front door.
He makes me happy and will never be absent from my heart.
I am always on his mind and he is always on mine.
|
Antquinishia - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Miami Gardens, FL
On a warm spring day I woke up and looked around there is no one to play with, no brother, no sister, no friends, no neighbors-----only an empty room filled with toys.
There is only one special friend that is willing to play with me till the day is done and that is---
PEBBLES—my special pet.
Pebbles’ fur is as thick as snow on a winter morning.
She is as round as a pineapple on a spring day.
PEBBLES always plays with me on a Saturday even when everyone is busy.
She is not my two-legged friend but four-legged friend that cares about how I feel.
Her name is PEBBLES the perfect pet for a little girl.
|
Kimberlin - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Miami Gardens, FL
SPARKLES is such a special friend!! If you look in her eyes you will see why.
The clever things she does brings a smile that causes my face to glow.
The color of her fur is coco brown and white.
Her legs are as fast as a tiger when she tries to get to me.
Don’t let that fierce look frighten you, it’s just to keep me safe.
She’s my other ears that hear above the skies.
When I’m mad she clowns around to make me happy.
Without her I ‘m no one.
With her I’m a beautiful powerful person.
I thank her for being my friend and my pet forever.
|
Akira - Grade: 5 - Fifth Grade - Miami Gardens, FL
Her color is piping hot chocolate with black and white spots.
Her paws are strong that grow stronger and stronger.
She has a twinkle in her eyes that scream classy and fun.
Even when I walk into a room she’ll walk to me with a smooth and easy walk like a glider in flight.
She can even sense my pain when she is sitting by my side.
When I sit down I start to talk to her about some days are hard even for a child when you have teachers
and parents coming at you from all directions.
Even when you think your friends are in your corner they can let you down.
I even started to tell her ,”MY ONLY ESCAPE IS YOU MY LONG HAIR FOUR LEGGED FRIEND”, Rose.
When you know I’m angry you clown around to put a smile on my face.
When you even know I’m happy you are joy abound.
You just know I will never tell you not now or you will never tell me go away. You’re just a special friend. Sharing love and companionship. Even though you’re just a dog you make this world a very special place.

“SUPERIOR HE IS”
This magnificent animal is full of words and sure to be heard.
He’s loving, he’s smart, and such a good friend at heart.
With words from the wild,
You’re bound to smile.
I can’t stay sad, but for a while because when he’s around
He makes me happy and can’t help but smile.
Performing tricks is his special talent.
Boy does he sing and dance with all his might,
Even when he’s out of sight, I can hear his songs
And it brings joy to my heart.
His trainer definitely made him an entertainer.
Be careful when you talk around him
He’ll always pick up the sound.
He will spill the beans, if you know what I mean.
Like no other, none other my famous parrot named
SUPERIOR—and he sure is a Super Pet!!

Poodle Perfect
By ricca lopatukhin
Roof, Roof, Roof,
I’m going out of my mind,
My dog will not be quiet,
He needs to go outside!
His name is Hershey,
He’s really in a hurry,
To chase squirrels all around,
If he catches them he’ll be really PROUD!
He pukes on our new floor,
It really makes a stain,
He always gets so dirty,
He really is a pain!
He likes to steal my food,
His favorite is cream cheese,
He runs where we can’t catch him,
And licks the plate real cleen!
He likes to cuddle in my bed,
He puts a pillow under his head,
And every time he lies with me,
He takes the bed so I can’t sleep!
He likes to play Tug-of-War,
He beats me till my hands are sore,
All his toys squeak really loud,
But I don’t mind the annoying sound!
He’s always with me when I’m scared,
Even when my heart is tarred,
All the time he’s there for me,
He’s perfect and will be there for me!
He has a bushy tail,
But he smells like stinky socks,
He barks when people walk by our house,
But my dog really rocks!
He eats things that he shouldn’t,
Things like chocolate, grapes, and beer,
But he always is ok,
He gets problems with his ears!
He licks me and will never bight,
And always stays asleep at night,
He does not pee or poop in the house,
But once he has caught a mouse!
I have pictures of us together,
And we will save them forever,
He lays with me when I read,
And he’ll always help me to succeed!
He defends me when my brother hurts me,
And he jumps on him until I’m free,
His favorite toy is a long black monkey,
My doggie is really funny!
He feels like a kid, like me,
And runs around feeling happy,
He might run outside, but its ok,
We will get him in, we’ll find a way!
We’ve had company and he stole all our stake,
We were upset but we found something else to make,
For his birthday there was a dog and cake,
He took his piece and ran away!
The place where he was boaght,
Is not there anymore,
It makes us really sad,
It makes our hearts feel sore.
Hershey is my favorite dog although sometimes he’s a pest,
But I always will love him he is the BEST!

Zoey
Zoey is my rescue dog,
She likes to jump on top of logs.
She is an Australian Shepard Mix,
She likes to chew on flying discs.
Zoey is a nosy dog,
She likes to poke her nose in logs.
Zoey likes to chew,
and even ate my shoe.
In the summer Zoey has her own pool,
that is how she keeps cool.
She likes to make trails in the snow,
I like to follow where she goes.
But best of all, I like to cuddle on the couch,
with my Zoey, and I lay my head on her and fall asleep.

Amazing Angie!!
My pet’s name is Angie.
She is a little hamster.
She enjoys nibbling on her food.
Every time I come from school, I let her out her cage so she can play with me.
Angie and I like to play hide and go seek.
I can never find her because she is so tiny.
She finds me because I am a human.
I could be a GIANT to her!
I give Angie everything in the world.
If I had all the money in the world then I would travel around to famous places with her.
She is one of the kindest hamsters alive.
You would love her if you met her.
Every time I see her googly eyes, I feel so happy.
She is the pet I love the most.

"Stop & Stare"
There is a time when time stops.
I stop and stare
at my turtles.
Take it all in: their patience,
their calm,
their peacefulness
and love.
There is no need to rush.
It’s all about enjoying life
as a single moment.
My turtles are wise and
they are the proof
that moving at a slow motion
gives you time to love and care
to stop and stare. |

My Dog Tory
My dog Tory was a black and furry dog.
She looked like a big black log.
Tory was a Standard Poodle.
I sat on her like a pool noodle.
My Grandpa Joe took her to the park everyday.
With the other dogs she liked to play.
We also took her to the wood.
When we called her name she understood.
On Saturdays she went to school.
The tricks she learned were very cool.
“Sit”, “bark”, “come”, and “stay”,
Were the words that I would say.
Tory was my favorite friend
I wish I could play with her again.
I miss her so much I could cry
This poem is to say good-bye.

MY SILLY DOG
My silly dog,
How playful and nice
She likes to run and play
All over the yard.
She makes me laugh
All day long
By playing tricks
All wrong.
Walking her is all not right
She tangles you up
All the way around
Making you trip on the ground.
Silly dog, silly pup
Everybody runs
Just seeing us
Going all around.
There is no way
I can’t love her more
Being silly, being playful
You’re still my lovely dog.

My pets mean life to me,
I would not be complete without them,
2 dogs and 4 cats are a handful,
But it is worth it every step of the way,
Feeding, Walking, Loving,
But when they leave Earth,
You really think of what you could of done differently to save that time,
They go into heaven,
But never out of your life,
Always remember the good times,
And the bad,
I love my cats and dogs,
Even our 27 hamsters and 4 mice that passed,
They were a pain,
The feelings never go away,
This is why I love the time that I have with my pets |

Rosie
Senorita Rosie you're a posie
Every day you look so cozy
You just sit there and lick your toesies
As you sniff, you are so nosy
I put my feet under some covers
And you pounce on them like it's no other
Simon licks you on the head
But you just sit there in your bed
You chase your tail like it's a mouse
While destroying everything in the house
You rush to the litter box with your tail puffed up
Maybe you shouldn't hold it in so much
Since you were at the adoption center
Our family's been great now that you've entered!

Simon
Simonizer you're a geyser
Full of love
You are so wiser
Than any cat I've ever met
Man, you are one smokin' pet
With your thick black fur
And your big yellow eyes
You'll always be my sweetie pie
When I shine that red dot on the floor
You jump up high on that big brown door
How you lay
In the sun
And lick your fur
till you're done
You always look
So peaceful there
Man I wish I could brush your hair
I love you so
I hope you do too
This is a poem

Round and round the tank you go
paddling your fins to and fro
you’d swim up and down
then up, up you’d drift
until you’d float back down
I wondered what you thought inside
Did you tell yourself that you wanted to hide?
So many questions inside my head
that never got answered in the seven years
before I found floating
dead
I knew you would last forever.
I was too young to understand
so when I found you twisted up
Belly up
I turned into a waterfall.
Goodbye my first found friend.

about my wonderful family zoo!
First there’s my dog
Chewy’s his name
Fetch and Frisbee are his game
My two parakeets
Just came home from the vet
They don’t like checkups
Watch out! They bit!
What’s that? Look out!
Who’s swimming at you?
It’s Bill the betta
In royal blue!
Next comes Blaster
Our greedy guinea pig
Give him some mango
He’ll dance a jig!
Finally in my tank
With places to go
My gold inca snail, C-3PO!
I love them all,
My wonderful zoo
Come visit!
You’ll love them too!

Liberty
On 9/11,
A day of tragedy,
Liberty was born-
Two months before me.
Since I have allergies,
She can't live with me.
I visit every chance I get.
She barks a big "Yippee"!
Because of my allergies,
She's learned to love a bath.
She jumps right in the tub,
Which always makes me laugh!
She doesn't understand allergies,
And sometimes licks my face.
Even though I take medicine,
I wash up in any case.
I want my body to be normal,
So she can live with me.
Liberty's my best friend
And we'll have to wait and see.

So sweet,so funny
So protected of me.
Your ears flow through the air
Especially when you run with flair.
Your golden hair swirls through the breeze
Just like the seven seas.
We spend lots of time together
Because your my very best friend forever
Before you go to sleep
I just want you to know
I love you so much
I can never let you go |

Barkoley
I’ll always remember you no matter what,
Even the way your mouth didn’t shut.
Everyone told me what a weird name you had,
And every time I told someone,
They would laugh.
Barkoley, Barkoley I use to repeat,
You would come towards me looking at my feet.
When we ran in the park,
I loved hearing your bark.
Barkoley, Barkoley I miss you so much,
Life without you is so very tough!!!

Molly
by Amanda Helms
My dog is small,
My dog is fun,
My dog is nice
To everyone.
My dog is neat,
My dog is cool,
And most of the time,
She won’t bark or drool.
She is so sweet,
And gentle and kind.
She is the best dog
That you ever will find.

Molly, my majestic little lion.
You shine brighter than Orion.
When we play my heart floods with joy,
As your tail shakes with every squeak of your toy.
I always feel safe at night in my bed,
Knowing that you are right there on the pillow beside my head.
Your teddy bear eyes watching over me.
No truer friend will there ever be.

Kate - Grade: 3 - Third Grade - Mandeville, LA
Before I was a stray,
I was happy and gay.
Until the day,
When my family threw me away,
And they were gone.
And then came a woman,
Who was jogging along,
Singing along to a song,
Then she saw me,
And said I was a cutie,
Then she called S.T.A.R.T.
And said I fit the part
Of an animal who needed a home.
One Saturday,
I got a foster
Her name was Fay
She took me to PetSmart
For adoption day
A man came along
And he wanted me
He named me Theodore.
Finally…a home!

I have a dog named Charlie, not Marley.
He bothers my bunny.
He is very funny.
He loves to play with tennis balls,
And he comes when we call.
He is very sweet,
And he likes meat.
He runs really fast,
Like the moment is his last.
He likes sticking his head out the car,
Like he can see Mars.
He likes cheese,
And has fleas.
He scratches himself all day,
Especially in May.
He barks a lot.
He need to be taught to not.

Pets Are a Wonder
Pets are a wonder.
They do things we can’t do.
They do things that are nasty,
Like chickens dust bathe to clean themselves.
They also eat worms and grubs.
Yuck!
Pets are a wonder for now,
But in the future,
We will know every secret they have.
But for now,
Pets are a wonder.

I want a pet gerbil.
That’s all that I want.
Not a dog, mouse, or rat.
If I get a rat,
My mom will whack him with a bat…
A mouse, too, without a doubt.
Wait a minute…
I have a cat!
My gerbil will be dead – like that!
So I won’t – just like that!

Class Pets
I have three class pets,
A bearded dragon and two gerbils too.
Their names are Rex, Dixie, and Nola.
They are really, really, really cute.
When the gerbils spin on their wheel,
I can’t focus.
Rex sometimes scratches on his cage,
That annoys me too.
But still they are very, very, very fun.
Rex really likes to bathe in the sun.
Dixie and Nola make tunnels under the mulch.
It is really cool to have these three class pets.

My Idolized Dog
By: Jeffrey Schumacher
Golden brown fur,
Waiting for you to pet him,
Makes me wonder,
Wonder what world their world is like,
Licking, jumping, friendly,
Friendly as human beings,
Cherish, passionate, admire,
Is the joy of life,
Those cute little puppy eyes,
Asking for a bone,
And you give it to him,
Gobble, gobble, gobble,
All done in a few minutes,
Jolly, jovial, gleeful,
Loving you more than anything,
Maybe not a bone though,
But still loves you,
You will seek him in your thoughts,
Is in your heart,
Intelligence, psyche, brain,
That’s my dog,
Simba Schumacher.

Madison - Grade: 3 - Third Grade - Mandeville, LA
There’s a beast in my house; small, white, and gray.
When I tell people about her, they seem to run away.
In their minds they think gross trash and garbage pails,
Small squinty eyes and long skinny tails.
This might freak you out, but don’t worry about that.
This beast that I’m talking about is really my pet rat.
She runs on her wheel part of the day.
And is never too tired to get up and play.
She has a big cage, we call it her house and
Oh, I forgot to tell you – her name is Mouse.

You’ll be my best friend ever yet.
Hedgehog, oh hedgehog.

I have a cockatiel, her name is Rex,
But we call her Birdy Bird.
I would like for her to learn to talk,
But she doesn’t say a word.
She’s mostly gray and white and yellow,
And has orange cheeks.
I feed her once a day.
She likes to eat seeds.
She likes to play with her toys.
Sometimes she likes to make noise.
She whistles and tweets all day long.
She likes to sing some songs.
Birds are great pets.
They like to play.
She is my favorite pet every day.

Toby
Toby is a great dog.
Unfortunately, he sometimes acts like a log,
And this is what he'll do:
He'll just lay on the couch,
No need to be in a pouch
Unlike a kangaroo.
He'll close his eyes,
Without any lullabies,
And he'll go to sleep with a pat.
Whenever a friend comes, he'll wag his tail,
but he's too wild to walk to get the mail.
(but I'm okay with that)
My family and I will play in the snow,
and a snow ball at Toby we'll try to throw.
(but mine usually misses with a buzz)
As soon as we throw he'll run away,
but I hope he knows that we are just trying to play.
(and he usually does)
He is a lab-boxer-pointer mix.
(I hope remembering that won't put you in a fix
or a fuss.)
Toby is black and white
and about my knees' height,
but too big for a suit.
If he gets lost,
the tags on his collar will bring him to us,
with the rest of his loot.
Every Saturday I'll give him a treat.
I'll make him shake and make him look neat.
And next I'll play hide and seek.
When it's Toby's birthday we'll give him a bone,
And maybe even a dog comb,
as long as he doesn't peek.
Sometimes we'll play outside
and then try to chase his hide.
(As long as you don't step in some poo!)
Toby is a great dog,
and if you're looking for him he'll probably be on the couch acting like a log
but now you know what he'll do.

Boss, My Bulldog
By Kerry Singer
Naps are a must,
Settles so gently like dust,
Puddle forms on the floor,
Drool just seems to pour.
Soulful eyes open up,
To reveal the feelings of my pup.
Always loyal,
Always true,
Loves me no matter what I do.

My Crazy Pets
I love animals, yes I do.
That’s why I got a cockatoo.
Conure eats lots of food.
He’s always in a good mood.
Guinea pigs squeak as I enter the room,
Wanting fruits, veggies, even the broom.
Male Mastiff bounces off the walls.
His favorite toy -rubber balls.
Bulldog likes to snort,
Not appropriate in court.
Terrier has lots of class,
Her bark could break glass.
Rescue canine boys,
Think they own all toys.
Female Mastiff, sweet as can be, stinky, slobbery,
She may be the most lovely.
Skinny, fat, short or tall,
Oh my pets! I love them all!

He is all gray with a black stripe down his back
He runs in his wheel with his cheek pouches packed
He makes me laugh and smile when I see him

Chlo-Meister (about Chloe, my French Bulldog) by Carly Bentel
I have four dogs that play tug-of-war,
While the others are sleeping and starting to snore.
The teams are unfair with the smallest of all,
all by herself and beginning to fall.
But she won’t give up without a fight,
Even if it has to go on all night.
She may not be big
And she may not be strong,
But her evil eye can set off a bomb.

My Fish PACIFIC
Fish, you would say are boring,
They have such tiny minds,
But not my fish,
As Pacific is one of a kind!
No, she can’t fly,
Or jump in the air,
She can’t even blow bubbles,
Or swim with a certain flair!
Pacific can’t talk,
She can’t do as I command,
But she can do something special,
I think she can understand!
I can talk to her,
I can show her my things,
I can read to her,
Or even sing!
I can tell her my secrets,
Share my happiness and despairs,
No matter what,
Pacific will always be there!

Pets, there’s 10.
They’re annoying now and then.
Katie, proud and short,
makes me giggle-snort.
Hershey & Snickers, guinea pigs.
chew wood and twigs.
Cockatoo, Caliph.
beak sharp beyond belief.
Bulldog , thinks she’s tough,
super cute and extremely rough.
Newman, mastiff puppy.
wears hula skirts and swims like a guppy.
Rottweiler’s a big baby.
Dad THINKS he’s still a maybe.
Old Mastiff can’t hear “beep”,
Sometimes I think she’s dead, she’s only asleep.
Another bird, Chuck.
If stepped on, he’s out of luck.
Labrador named Forest,
loves to travel, could be a tourist.
Pets are cool.
Actually, pets rule!

BECKHAM, THE GREAT!!
He’s my awesome dog with shiny black fur.
A huge nose fits his personality-
Overprotective, always growling “Grrr”!
He is Marmaduke in reality.
Great at fetching, catching, and tug–o-war,
Great at SIT, STAY and ROLL-OVER commands,
Great at begging for treats and wanting more,
Great at making me follow his demands.
He’s a sleepyhead, who wakes up at noon,
Plays soccer all day with his mighty paws.
Watching Scooby-Doo, his favorite cartoon,
He’s spread out on the couch, breaking house laws.
Why I love him so much I can’t explain-
He’s Beckham, my one of a kind Great Dane!

Butternut and Lulu do not seem alike.
But when you live with both of them,
you'll see that's not right.
Lulu, my dog, has large, liquid eyes.
Butternut, the hamster's, are as tiny as fly's.
But both sets of eyes, one big and one small,
follow the path of my feet down the hall,
as I carry two bowls, one mini, one max,
filled with carrots and kibble and all kinds of snacks.
The squeak of the wheel fills my room dusk to dawn
as Butternut runs, going nowhere head-on.
Meanwhile downstairs Lulu, curled in a pouch,
atop Daddy's legs, she's the queen of the couch.
Although they are different in all of these ways,
I still love them both and that's the way they should stay.
